jenmiller, make up a printed bill and take it to the neighbor. No telling if you'll get paid but here are some "going rates" for chickens:
chicks under 20 weeks (4 1/2 mo), and old birds that don't lay anymore $5.00 each
20 weeks to 1 yr old, getting ready to lay, or just barely laying (called pol, point-of-lay) $15.00 each
young but mature hens that lay regularly, 6 mo - 2-3 yr $25.00 each
rooster - depends totally on how much value he was to the hens, I sold my extra one for $15.00
I am just sick for your loss.
Please 'fix' the problem as best you can and start up again.
Needless to say my wonderful husband took care of 1 of 10 dogs that came over and killed them. The neighbors dont feed thier dogs b/c they arnt working. So they come to my house and eat whatever they can get thier paws on, including my beagles food and quail food in my shed. Just so happened that they found my chickens outside and they were hungry.
