Haybale sounds so much like my Dottie. Raised alone, she can't quite connect with the others and runs from most contact. She goes outdoors during nice days, but still spends all of her nights indoors with me.

I LOVE Haybale updates! They make me feel better about my "outcast," Dottie.

Haybale and Dottie are definitely in the same boat.
So glad to hear that. I don't consider HB an outcast though. He's just. special case, and he's certainly happy.

Maybe outcast is too harsh a word. I just wish at least one of the other chickens would become her buddy. Dottie has me, and she gets along with the house cat, and sometimes, with the dog. But she runs from the other birds. I think it's because she was the last layer in a brooder full of bigger, peckish broilers at the feed store. Even when the other birds don't seem threatening, she runs off. Maybe she's perfectly happy, and I'm just projecting my feelings.
