I think my tom has FINALLY figured it out. LOL. First the hen would beat the crud out of him everytime he came near her but would flop on the ground for me. Then she started presenting herself to him finally and he was too busy showing off. Then he started standing on her and taking so long she would get up and he tried to go for her head. Finally tonight I think maybe they got it right but I'm not sure. I've never seen turkey's mate before. She is a BBW and he is a Narragansett. I don't know if we will get fertile eggs but here's hoping

She's laying right now, she hasn't gone broody yet. Last year she was really broody. I don't plan on trying to incubate eggs, I don't have an incubator and I'm sure hubby would kill me, but if something happens on its own so be it

Hmmm. Do you think I should just start collecting the eggs and not let them have any chance to hatch (I mean who knows if they even would) I have a guy at work that eats the eggs. I don't want to be producing birds that won't be healthy. I mean I'm not going to eat them. They are pets. If any hatched, I might keep one. I doubt they would hatch, but if they did I would advertise them on Craigslist. I'd have to tell someone that if they were going to eat them I don't want to know about it

In my head I would think of it as a happy turkey living out it's life. (I'm not a vegetarian or anything)

I would check for fertility. The first few eggs might not be fertile, but you never know. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be healthy if they hatched out.

I do not know much about Turkeys - but I bet they would be healthy (I hope it was not my "little turkeys" comment that caused you worry - I ment little turkeys as in poults

) .

Most of my "cross breeds" are very robust, often grow up to be larger than their parents (chickens, ducks, geese). The crosses also end up with beautiful colorful plumage.
