My new bobwhite male has been rough on the female and her scalp is split wide open at the back. Can they heal from an injury like this? If so, what should I do for her. She is not tame and wont let me hold her. I am afraid of hurting her more.
I would try to close it up for her, but she isn't letting me near her. Plus it appears to have dried already. I took him out of the cage immediately when I saw the back of her head. He's lucky I put him in the other pen rather than the freezer. I gave her some fresh water and a nice crispy green bean off the plant I have growing on the counter. If I can get near her later, I think I will try to dab it with some saline & a bit of lidocane and see if I can pull the edges together. Poor girl. I just got her a couple of days ago and she hasnt settled in yet.
Yeah I think I'll use the crazy glue again. I used it once before on one of my buttons that split her scalp open when she flushed and hit the popcorn ceiling. It wasn't as big of a gash though. It was easier that time because I got to it right away before the blood dried and the buttons can't put up as much of a fight. I am going to have to trim this girl's talons. Thanks for the reassurance. I think that is what I needed more than anything tonight. Seeing that much of her skull was a bit of a shock.
I had 4 of them in a rabbit cage til today, when I took one pair out and put them in a wood crate I modified today. That's when he decided to get too frisky and ripped her head open. I'm still considering the freezer option for him.
yes moving them can start it sometime......i know people don't like this but i get one that does that he get a bit in his beak, no it doesn't hurt them, and stop them 100% of the time.
Use a disinfectant of some sort on his head. Just dab on it with a paper towlel to keep it from getting infected. Use paroxide, alcohol, ext. Just use a small ammount...
