I would say get them back NOW before the kids get attached. I mean they will be a little upset, but not as upset as you seem right now.

sorry for you about the misunderstanding! my DH(darn hillbilly!) would be getting chewwed out right about now!(then again he wouldnt have sold them in the first place!) I would state some 'rules'! only you are allowed to pick and sell chicks!??

I agree. Get them back ASAP and try to figure out a way to make sure everyone is happy. If you really don't want to give back some chicks to trade for the ones you need back, then just give him his money back for the 3 extra he paid for. Then maybe offer to give him back 3 different ones when they are available? If you're planning on hatching some more, maybe hatch 3 extra and tell him he can buy those if he wants to, even though they'll be younger than the first ones he bought. Try to make an offer that is fair for both of you. But get those 3 chicks back ASAP if you really want them!

I agree. Say that those ones are reserved for someone else or something, your dh gave them the wrong ones while you were away, and get back your favorite little chick! If all else fails, make the dh buy you more chicks as a punishment!

lol at least that's what I would do...

Good luck! I would be really upset, too.

Agreed

Wow. My condolances. I think you should have your fiance call the guy back. He needs to explain that what he did was wrong, and he needs to make it right. If these chicks are for his kids, they should be happy with your remaining chicks, and he should trade you. The children may be dissapointed for a minute, but it would be a good lesson for them:
1. If you agree to take care of something for someone, do exactly what you agreed to.
2. If you mess up, make it right.

This is the way we do it here. It was really no set rule so to speak, but the DW doesn't even let anyone near the coop/runs when I'm not home. A bird doesn't leave here unless I myself physically removes it and gives it to the buyer and if she happens to have a favorite/favorites in the bunch, I do not sell it for any amount of money(If it's a good offer I do tell her).

Sorry things didn't go right with this transaction. I would call the man and tell him that only 3 were for him and the others were already sold to someone else. I can't help thinking that he knew what he was looking at and took advantage of the situation. Good luck!!!

Holy moly, I would be so ticked off with him, accident or no. Tell whoever bought them he mistakely sold the wrong chicks and you will gladly replace them. Have your fiance replace by going down to the feedstore and giving them some chicks from them, of course out of his pocket and I'm sure the kids won't care to them chicks are chicks.

I agree, that demonstrates a complete lack of respect for you and your wishes and needs. Clearly to you these are not "just chickens" and it should have never been done in such a crass manner. I'm sorry you lost your babies
