Head between his knees

My 5 week old Silkie Roo is tucking his head clear under as if he's trying to keep it between his knees. When he does lift it up he holds it a an angle with is left eye pointing u bit up and his right eye pointing a bit towards the floor. He only has walked backwards, although I did put some feed in front of him and he gobbled it all (I only put about a tablespoon as a test) so I have him in solitary and he has a small dish of food and water with some of the chicken electrolite powder mixed in with it (forgot the brand name of the stuff from the feed store)

So, he wasn't acting sick, he just started doing this. He does jerk his head around sometimes, while it's tucked under, at first I thought he was caught on something and couldn't get his head up. If I lift his head he will hold it up, he has drank a little bit of the water mixture off a spoon when I held it to his beak but then he puts his head back under. If his head is up and I pick him up, under it goes.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like it could be "wry neck" a vitamin B deficiency. If you have vitamins and minerals put this in her water. I have used infant Poly-visol (without iron) and put a few drops in his mouth as well as in the drinking water. I had a baby quail bounce right back because I started the vits immediatlely. Sometimes they get completely over it, sometimes not. Good luck.

I have something from the feed store that has B12 in it, will that work?

Yes, it's wry neck I would bet. My BR is just now healed from it (lots of threads on this right now if you search wry neck). 1 squirt of Vitamin B, 3 Vitamin E gel caps a day (preferably with Selenium) given daily and Avia Charge water. You can get all the vitamins at a pharmacy. I isolated my chick for awhile but ended up putting her back in with her brooder mates. It has taken almost 2 weeks to see a definite improvement.

I had the same problem with a 1 week old chick. I fed him the goo from the inside of vitamin E tablets and dripped about 4 drops of poly-vi-sol into his water (a wet cat food can). I repeated this about twice a day for 2 weeks. The poor baby got worse before he got better, but now at 5 months old, he is just a normal chicken.

Don't give up! He will get better.

Thank goodness there's hope. This is my daughters show roo and she's on vacation. I have been giving him the electrolite mix with vit b in it and he is more upright today. I can get some Avia from a friend so I can start that today. I got the poly vi sol last night but it is with iron so I'm going to go back this morning and trade it for some without iron (somebody on here said that is the kind I need, didn't know

) .
