Head Injury and Shock

Sorry to see this. Chicks are pretty durable if there healthy. The first 48 hours are the most crucial after a severe injury. If you get through shock the first 24 hours chances increase greatly that your chick will be ok. The second 24 hours will show great improvement in it's mobility and the chick will try to eat. Be sure to give electrolytes as soon as you can they will help a lot with shock treatment. By the third day your chick will start to get more active. Be sure to keep it warm and hydrated. Antibiotics twice daily and check on him every couple hours.for the first day or so.

Alright, still sitting up alright. Not opening her eyes. Doesn't want to eat or drink on her own. I feel like she really needs calories or something to give her back energy. Anything I can do?

Minced boiled egg. Place it on a shallow plate or flat surface and peck at it with your finger, maybe touching her beak to it. If she is too weak to eat, sugar water is the only thing left.

It's encouraging she made it through the night. Ask around among your older friends if they've had cataract surgery and still have some steroid eye drops. That could reduce the swelling (and pain).

Just got back from some tests (it's finals week at college) and she opened her one eye a bit. I got some more electrolytes in here and I'm going to pick up some nutra drench for chickens at tractor supply after my last test for the day. I'll see if they have any eye drops that might help. I saw asprin might help with the pain, so I might give her a little of that too. I'm sure she's hurting.

It sounds like she is going to recover your still in the first 24 hours. I just used sterile water to treat there eyes applying with cotton. On eyelids I use Neosporin applied with cue-tip. Also apply on head with cotton. Continue electrolytes and start feeding mush chick feed boiled egg and water. You can also add electrolytes in mush.
