And I'm not just talking about us falling in love with the latest addition to the family. (She really is trying her best to mend our hearts today the cute little thing)

She is having trouble keeping her balance, i thought maybe she had splayed her legs but she can stand up fine supported with a cupped hand (yes i got her out to check her *slaps wrist*)
She hatched at about 3pm today, it was a little traumatic for her as she came out the wrong and and struggled to get out. Im hoping she is just tired from the hatch but her legs look like they almost topple her over if she tries to stand

Any ideas?

She is one of the scruffiest looking chicks I have ever seen!!

Mine is hardly the definitive word on anything, but she is still awfully new. Give her a few hours and you might want to prop her up with a wash rag in bowl, to give her some support. She won't need food or water right away, just make sure she is warm and supported till somebody pops in here who knows more than me.

She's awfully cute. What kind is she?

i think maybe since you that she hatch out the wrong side of the egg, that she has a leg problem.she may have developed wrong in the shell or just had bad legs in her genetics. sorry to say but she may not make it.

I would give her some time. I have had weak chicks who didn't stand, slept all the time, etc. Sometimes they just need a little time to get their strength. One little guy could only stand briefly and scooted on his bum but by day 3 he was up and running with the rest of them.

She went in the brooder box 10 minutes ago and wont stop yelling at us all! I'm starting to think her legs have splayed

so i will try the band aid trick when she has settled a bit and eaten something!!

Im really hoping its something that simple... then again ive never had a chick with splayed legs survive.
Thanks for all the advice i will keep you posted!!

P.s. I forgot to say she is a cuckoo silkie (but daddy wasnt pure silkie)

I tried pipe-cleaners she fell flat on her back and cried for ages so I took it off and left her.
She is now up and walking and running brilliantly but her legs are at a funny angle.... not splayed but almost turned in! We will take each day as it comes, but she's doing great other than that!!
Havent seen her eat or drink which has me a little worried but mum assures me she has been doing just great and she is thriving well now YAY! Im just not getting my hopes up too high
