3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? only noticed the head shaking & breathing thing today, the not roosting thing for about a week
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? no
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.no
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.no idea
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.layer pellets, protien boosters (BOSS, sardienes, cottage cheese) scratch, pears, peppers, egg shells
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. no idea
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?none
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? treat my self
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. posted pic of her roosting on the lip of the shavings catcher by the pop door
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use pine bedding, cozy draft free coop w/ plenty of ventilation(windows & doors open during the day)

Here's June Bug, she's been not roosting w/ the rest of the girls for about a week now. I noticed that she does seem a bit more ruffled than the rest of the girls. as you can see, there is molting going on, but I don't find any BO feathers among the feathers on the floor. She is not laying right now, I think she and many of her coop mates are taking the winter off & only 2 hens are currently laying. I did pick her up today & you can feel her breast bone, but she still is on the meaty-ish side, so shes not skin & bones. When she was in my hands, I did notice her kinda gasping??? She has been seen eating & she comes out into the run w/ the rest of the girls, tho this am, she didn;t seem interested in the scratch & BOSS that I threw out. I just went out to check on her before the lights go out & shes still perched on the lip to the shaving catch of the pop door. on very close observation, I can see her breathing w/ her mouth open (barely open) Could it be gape worm??? I have Ivermectin pour on & wazine & they were all de-wormed in late August. SHe was also observed shaking her head alot tonight when she came into the coop.
Please help me figure out whats wrong w/ my sweet girl.

Just watched the youtube videos for gape worm & she is not doing that to that extent

I have a similar thing going on with my top roo right now, although there is no head shaking. He's also breathing with his beak open but it's more like a wheeze. Yesterday, I put him in a pen in my garage and gave him VetRX in his water in the am, also rubbed some on his comb and nostrils. Last night I put Sulmet (antibiotic) in his water. This morning he's fine, crowing away but still wheezing???? From what I'm reading, I'm thinking infectious bronchitis which is, they say, like a human cold. No sign of this in the rest of my flock this morning but I plan on putting Sulmet in everyone's water today and I'm also going to get Durvet electrolites (spl?) and vitamins. Sorry, I can't be more helpful. Good luck

I would treat for the gape worm. It sounds exactly like that! I would also try to treat for a respiratory infection. This is a common ailment for chickens. You can get an inexpensive mixture to place in the water. Keep you water clean and the mixture will help all the chickens if they are starting to get sick, but not showing symptoms.
