Hello I have had several birds get diarhea and begin shaking their heads. Soon after the head shaking starts they become listless and die. Tried Sulmet No use. Any ideas??

Are there other symptoms, such as cough, wheeze, nasal, or eye drainage? Head shaking can be a sign of a respiratory infection, ear infection, mites, or other problem. Diarrhea may be present in intestinal infections, respiratory infections, from drinking a lot of water in hot weather, and egg yolk peritonitis. Sulmet, which is no longer sold in the US, is a sulfa antibiotic used to treat coccidiosis, certain intestinal infections, coryza, and some other infections. Where are you located? A necropsy by a state vet or state poultry lab would be good to get if you lose another. The following link is good to read about disease symptoms: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

Hello Eggcesive, No other symptoms. They eat and other than the head shaking no other symptoms. I checked this am and another is doing it. Diarhhea seems to have subsided. The chicken that has it eats but doesn't want to move until I reach for her. They are also molting. I'm in far Northern WI.
