I have two Ameracaunas that are about 3 months old. After about a month, I noticed their heads had a tremor and unusual bob. I took them to the vet and he gave them Marquis for worms. He did no test. This doesn't make sense to me. I have kept them quarantined for 2 months to make sure they don't have something that can be spread to my flock. Do you think its okay to reintroduce them to the flock, or can they have something contagious? Should I take them to a different vet?

I have a Dark Brahma pullet who hatched with head tremors, I think it was due to her getting rolled, & bumped around by other chicks in the incubator. She's 4mths old now, & still has the tremors. She's the bobble head of the flock.

Sometimes we can tell more from a video that shows the symptoms that you describe. Videos posted to YouTube or Vimeo with a link posted here are best. Marquis or ponazuril is a drug that treats protozoa organisms in horses and other animals. I cannot find much on it’s use in chickens. An anti-protozoan could possibly treat coccidiosis, but I cannot find that it treats worms. For worms, Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer are the best products. We can give you dosages as well.

If the tremors or head bobbing is neurological in origin, it might be helpful to give 400 IU of vitamin E, some thiamine (vitamin B1) in a chicken vitamin or B complex, and a little cooked egg or sunflower seed that has selenium. That is what most use to treat wry neck or other neurological symptoms.

It is hard to know if new birds can be carriers of a disease or not, when they have come from a different home. But 2 months seems plenty long enough to watch for symptoms of an illness.
