Headache on shipping ducklings?

They will have low blood sugar, that's what the seizures are from. Get some sugar water in them. It should bring them around within an hour. I generally offer a teaspoon of brown sugar in a quart of water, but I might try to mix it a bit heavier initially.

OK, trying to work this phone camera thing. I'm new to this. And there's red light from the warming lamp. Sorry...

Image 0281 is alive but just weak. I've got several others weak just like that. I'm not sure how weak is something I should be alarmed about.

But something interesting is that after giving them some egg yolk, a lot of them had noticeable improvement that looked better than just normal food. I'm thinking feeding them liquid egg yolk after shipping may be a good survival strategy.

Very cool. Thanks for telling me this. I didn't know that. Wish I would have known that 3 hours ago, might have saved 2 more of them.

I will remember this stategy. I'm very curious how you thought of it.

I'm a type 1 diabetic. When a diabetic gets low blood sugar and they don't eat something they will eventually have seizures, and than eventually die as the body is starved of energy.

Shipped poultry is living on the absorbed egg yolk which will sustain them for 2-4 days generally. After that they are out of energy and will have low blood sugar. I always give my shipped poultry the sugar water mixture the first day or two to help them get some quick energy.

Birds that have low blood sugar will many times not eat which would help too, but they are physically unable to do so because the brain, and body has no energy. They get so low in energy that they just give up. I've been there. :)

People like to do the electrolytes which is fine too as it contains glucose. The brown sugar is an old timer remedy from before electrolytes were a thing. I've revived quite a few by making them drink and giving it time to work.

Thanks!

I talked to a guy whos ducklings were lost in the mail for 7 days.... They all lived!

Have no idea how that is even possible. Are you sure that's not one of those, "I caught a fish thisss BIG,' stories?

It would be nice if that's true however.

Thanks for trying to encourage us.
