Headache on shipping ducklings?

They will have low blood sugar, that's what the seizures are from. Get some sugar water in them. It should bring them around within an hour. I generally offer a teaspoon of brown sugar in a quart of water, but I might try to mix it a bit heavier initially.
I went two tablespoons of organic cane sugar with a pinch of gray sea salt in one quart of spring water on both my shipments. Only for the first day.

Hi!

Yeah, they came this morning. I picked them up about 2 hours ago.

The order was for 12 of them. There were 15 in the box. But already 6 are dead, 1 has niacin like seizures, and there's about 3 more that look really weak.

I'm trying to figure out how to use my phone camera. And hope to put up pics.

I'm wondering how do you tell 'sleepy' from 'too weak to survive'? Any thoughts on this? (regarding brand new ducklings). I will try to post pics within an hour.
Great news that they are in! :thumbsup

I wish I could help you on determining "sleepy" vs "too weak to survive"...

I'll check with my wife, she has this inate ability to determine if I am just "sleepy", or have had "too many beers to be worth a hoot"... 🍻

In my experience, if the duck cannot move on it's own, it won't make it.

In my opinion, a sleeping duck looks like it's passed out drunk, not dead.

LOL

Thanks.

And yes, things are working out. After the initial losses things improved after using the egg yolk and sugar tricks that you all gave to me as ideas.

I wanted to confirm that these ideas worked.

And I can't say that I know yet about what the difference between weak and sleepy is yet. But thinking about it and being proactive helped.

I'll try to put up another pic later today. They are lively and...whistling like crazy right now.

See if you can get a refund on shipping from the post office. I had some older goslings shipped and got all shipping back because they were a day late. I believe Stromberg would need to file the claim for you.
When I called the PO 1-800 number they said there were delays due to COVID.

Good deal!

I don't even give tap water to my dogs.

Well you guys back east have different water tables than us. There's still places, that get snow melt run off in the west where our water is OK.

But

Is that EWG group
What breed? Happy to hear no more losses.

They are little black runner ducklings. They are kind of funny already.

One of them keeps trying to peck and eat his brethren. And they keep doing the puppy pile thing. Some of them kept trying to sleep on the water drinking dish thing... which made me worried about drowning. Another one keeps trying to swallow food bigger than his neck is thick.

This tap water issue they could solve if they really wanted to. That's what's so sad about it.

But a lot of the more socialist countries have worse tap water than we do. I'd found out recently Canada's tap water is really bad, like Flint Michigan kind of bad in quite a few areas.

Its strange that something so simple is being let go. Its not hard to cleanup drinking water. We've had that technology for decades.
