crd= Chronic resp. Disease. It can show up from many different viruses. Chickens do not have colds. If they get one of these viruses they become carriers for life. It is passed in the egg, on feathers and manure. You would have to have a closed flock, no chickens in and none out. Ones coming in would catch it and if any go out they give it to the new flock. Bad situation. It is important to know what your chickens carry. If you sell hatching eggs, or sell chicks it would not be fair to give them unsuspecting flock owners. It could destroy their flocks too. It may seem as simple as a sneeze. It could have clear drainage or yucky stuff. I wish I could remember the page all this is on but I can't at this time. Look around in the archives and you will find out more.
PS for ms type viruse the hens are eatable and so are the eggs if cooked well. People do not catch it just other foul. It will eventually cause a lot of arthritic changes in the hen, and her imune system is hit hard. She will catch other things as well and often catches pneumonia and dies. Gloria Jean
