My hen hast hatched her first chicks in October. They have always been with my flock and have been fine. One of them was being picked one for a couple days, i put some medicine on her head for 2 days and then it was fine. Now 2 weeks later it looks like this, is it infected? Did it heal weird??
I’ll add photos of it injured and now
Thanks!!

What medicine did you use? It doesn't look like it scabbed over very well from what I can see. Is it a hard scab or is it kind of squishy underneath?
@Eggcessive or one of the others might know a little more.
That black part is rock hard, I can kinda wiggle it and see like wet red flesh underneath.
I sprayed vetericyn on it

I would probably apply some Neosporin to it every day to keep it soft. I will try and find a picture of @coach723 ’s hen who healed from a similar injury. Okay, here is her picture of a scalped hen weeks later:

Yup, sounds like the scab formed very badly, and the wound isn't actually protected by it at that point.
Vetericyn should be sprayed 2-3 times a day (even 4 times) for a shallow injury until the wound is fully healed, and it's best if you spray and then put an ointment over top if it's a deeper wound. Spraying it for a couple days won't do much.
Definitely use an ointment to keep it soft as it heals and to help protect it from investigative hens picking out of curiosity.

Doesn't look like normal scabbing and healing. Don't know if it's infection or it just got caked up with dirt. I would work on softening and removing all that. It does look like there is some swelling around the edges. Go slow, it may take several days/attempts to get it all cleaned up. Then I would flush it out well with some chlorhexidine (hibiclens), remove any pus if you see any, and then apply neosporin or plain triple antibiotic ointment several times a day to keep it covered and moist. Pictures of the stuff you remove and of how the injury looks after cleaning it out might be helpful.
