We could use some more advice on our roosters healing process. Sammy seems to be doing a lot better...eating, drinking, talking and crowing. He's still in the pet carrier in our house because he limps and is sore, he can't put a lot of pressure on the leg quite yet. We're wondering how long we should keep him confined. Would it be a good idea or bad idea to put him on the porch for some fresh air and sunshine in his carrier?...just for a little while during the day. Thought it might be good for his immune system to have some fresh air & sun, but also don't want it to get his feathers ruffled and frustrate him. We also wondered if he should be kept in a warmer place like the house for a while yet. He only has one hen friend, all our others got taken by a neighbors dog over the years (that dog is gone now) would seeing his little hen friend be a good or bad thing right now? He was attacked on Saturday, so it hasn't been that long. We do have a nice coupe that he can be locked in, but I think he'd hurt himself in there like he did before by falling off his perch. You guys seem to have all the answers!

what exactly is going on with his leg can you describe it? I would say inside is good if the nights are cold, and maybe visits with his friend during the day for comfort, I think that having company often helps them heal faster.

Can you support the leg? I use Sam splints (for human fingers) when making a brace for a chicken's leg, its great stuff and can be bent to form a boot of sorts that you tape on to support the injured leg.
