Health section?

What if there were an emergency section, that was for EMERGENCY only situations? Then once the situation was resolved the thread was moved into the disease/injury/health forum or even simpler just get locked after a certain amount of time.

The problem becomes; What is an emergency?

It is relative to the comfort and experience level of the animal owner. For some a larger cut is an emergency and an area they need help with, while for some of us it is just something we take care of.

I don't like the idea of locking threads just because a certain amount of time has passed. Many cases presented in that section have no clear cut solutions and take weeks or even months to resolve. It is really nice to be able to hear follow-up stories well after the fact, too. Locking these threads up would prevent the OP from submitting those follow-ups.

I will admit that the Emergencies section is large and turns over rapidly, but I don't see any solution to that unless people stop having emergencies. There are lots of folks over there that do their best to answer most questions that come through. Rarely, a question will get missed, but that is usually more that no one has an answer for the question rather than the question got missed.

The best solution is to divide the section into very clearly demarcated sections that don't overlap or have any ambiguity. For example:

Confusing:

• Emergencies
• Non-Emergencies

Better:

• Injuries
• Diseases

... but even that is tricky because something that is a disease may look like an injury and vice versa.

Another tricky situation: Where should "parasites" go? The diseases / injuries section or predators & pests?

i think they should have both the emergencies section and normal health section!
