My 3 year old hen died last night and I'm just trying to figure out why. She has been having labored breathing since the winter time, I put her on Tylan then thinking she had a respiratory issue. Since then she has been on and off with the labored breathing. Yesterday she was lethargic and didn't eat or drink all day. I noticed she had gargled breathing and was breathing really hard. I brought her inside out of the heat and tried to give her some water with a syringe by put the water on her beak, it seemed to work but she had no interest in drinking or eating herself. Her crop was empty. Before I tried giving her water, she had a clear watery liquid dripping from her nose and her vent. I was holding her and she kind of convulsed/sneezed and pushed a small amount of her intestines out of her vent, I got it to go back in and stay in but she was not egg bound and had not laid eggs in months. She had no evidence of being egg bound. I soaked her in a warm bath anyhow, she refused to stand but seemed to enjoy the bath. Can anyone help me figure this out?

I'm sorry to hear that.

It sounds like she either had a physical problem of some kind (such as internal) or a virus. A bacterial infection I don't think would drag on that long.
