Heart or head? (FOX)

Hello all,

Head, but first you have to catch the fox. Gray fox are relatively easy to box trap, but I have only ever caught 4 red fox in box traps - one was a starving dog fox with a broken lower jaw, and the other 3 were juvenile littermates. For me snaring has been a far more effective way of catching fox.

I don’t think it matters much. Either way he’s dead pretty darn quick. I’d go for the heart only because it’s easier to hit him in the chest if he’s moving around in the trap, which he likely will be. Is he in the trap now, or is this a preemptive question?

This is a preemptive question. The trap is set right now though.

Heart shot would be less messy.

Head. More chance of instant death. No mess if you use a .22.

Don't shoot foxes a lot, but with groundhogs a heart shot is a lot better of a death. The animal doesn't thrash about while its brain fails. Much quicker with a heart shot
