Heartbreak knocked upon our door...

I am feeling your pain right now. I just lost my youngest wolf-malmute,Bandit, yesterday. He has been with me since he was born and though I have his Mom and half=brother I will miss him everyday. My dh and two friends buried him in a beautiful spot in our woods that I can see from my kitchen window. Just hold on the the good memories and cherish them.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge...

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

I always liked this one... sorry for your loss.

We are moving in a month and taking Stanley's ashes with us and he will be planted under a dogwood tree, with lots of pretty flowers. He used to love to sniff the flowers

And yes, we will be adding another dog to our family, as all our animals are rescues. Murphy his dog buddy (a min schnauzer) is having a most difficult time through this. He was a street dog that was attacked by the larger dogs (and just about every dog he encountered was bigger than him!) on a regular basis. Stanley was the only dog he never felt threatened by despite the 113 lb size difference. It's so hard to watch him look for his buddy and when he can't find him he starts shaking and comes to us making odd little noises

Again, thank you all and SillyChicken, thank you for sharing the Rainbow Bridge, I had seen it once some time ago and loved it.

How precious! Your kind words for your dog are touching.

I "almost" feel guilty for being so sarcastic in the thread I posted "I don't want my dog anymore" (as I sit and wait for my daughter and her dog at the groomer's where she is lovingly grooming him). Dogs can be such a gift. If I were to even try to post a tribute to a service dog we lost, I would likely lose it. Words don't go far enough, but you have done a beautiful job. Your heartfelt appreciation, affection, and grief for your dog is clear.

I am sorry for the pain, but happy you experienced the joy. I do hope you will invite another canine soul into your life. It is clear that you have room to love another and would appreciate his/her love for you.
