heartbreaking loss

Of course you feel devastated! Chickens are interesting, funny and can be so sweet. Plus they give us eggs and entertainment. We've lost some of ours over the years to predator attacks and it's just horrible. We used to let them free range during the day and weren't great about locking them up at night. Now we keep them in a large coop and run all the time. My kids left the door open yesterday though and a stray husky got in and killed one before I could stop it. If I hadn't been there, it would have killed them all. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My thoughts are with you. I lost one the other day, found her in the bottom of the coop stiff and cold. Still not sure what was wrong, suspected internal laying. I wasn't up to doing a necropsy. It definitely wasn't disease, and doing one won't bring her back, so I just buried her. My chickens are my babies, I still miss Ginger every single day, and half of me always expects to see her free ranging with the others.
I'm so sorry. It's just heartbreaking :(
