Heartbroken! My Lil'Bit is dead :(

Just to express my sadness at the loss of Lil'Bit - I too have loved and lost my favourites, yes, we cry and miss them like crazy and No - life will never be the same without them BUT they have enhanced our lives and we are better for that experience....Be thankful that she was YOURS and nobody else can take that from you - she is always with you in your dreams - hold onto that thought and hopefully in time the memories will be of the good times you shared - you are one very special person to have loved her in the way you did and still do!

No I don't, unfortunately. I didn't know whether her blindness was congenital or something that happened in the brooder, so I didn't want to risk hatching eggs from her.
I used her last egg in our supper preparations last night. I could always tell Lil'Bit's eggs. They had a tiny "kiss" of speckles at one end.

Sorry for your loss of Ethel.

Isn't it funny that no matter how many eggs we get a day, we can always recognize a favorite's eggs and all the rest are 'just eggs'.
Ethel's were medium sized but darker than the others and always clean and perfect, thick shell, firm orange yolk, always fertile and the best for hatching. Her daughters are due to start laying any time now and I'm hoping at least one of the four will lay eggs like her mom.

Red, she was a LF dark brahma. She rarely had tail feathers. It didn't seem to be a problem of the others picking them out, she just had trouble growing them.
