Heat: brooder vs broody

Why is it that we need a heat lamp on the chicks at 85-90 degrees but the two chicks that hatched under a broody on Friday are outside with mom?? It's 67 degrees currently. I don't get it...

Because the broodies are raising by the old rules, they never read the book that said they had to keep the chicks warm at all times. I think you should go out and explain to her the NEW rules for chick raising. While your at it remind her that her chicks can only eat chickstarter.

They've bypassed the feed altogether too! I took pictures but for some reason Photobucket isn't working

Also chicks in a brooder will move away from the heat lamp to cool down, so it's kind of the same. Also my broodys never read the rules ether, but do feed the chicks a little bit of feed.
