Heat lamp help

The things that are important to me are.
That the bulb is NOT Teflon coated.
That the heat source is at one end of the brooder so chicks can get warm or cool as they please.
That the light can be adjusted for temperature. Either lifted up or dimmed.
And your most important thing to have is a thermometer!
 
Is there a limit as to how many chicks one heat plate can handle?
Not Mary, but....Yes, there is.
The commercial plates are as bad about citing 'population' as the tiny coop makers.

I've used a 12x24 pad for 16 chicks successfully until they were done with heat.
I wouldn't try to do more than that, especially if ambient temps were low.
The heat plates and pads are great, but there are drawbacks, population is one and being able to see how they are doing is another as there can be piling and trapping under a plate/pad.
