Hi, yes I'm are getting some chicks this month and I keep my heat lamp in the coop since I never know when Im getting new chicks. The chickens can't get to it, but my problem is when I turn it on it smells like burnt toast. Nothing seems broken they're just a bunch of cob webs on it. So should I be concerned?

Well any kind of debris could build up over time and even increase.

And if the debris becomes flammable and builds up to a point....who knows what could happen. But this wouldn't happen over night.

With my poultry somehow they manage to always splash food on my lamp, which looks like that one. And it just builds up.

You could unplug it and clean it up both on the lamp and the bulb, but only while unplugged. And if you do this you'd have to then make sure you let it dry first before you plug it back in also.

Okay thank you 😊

When I was setting up the borrowed heat lamp I found a great deal of dust and debris not only on the shade but in the socket itself.

I'm very glad that I didn't turn it on before I unscrewed the bulb and cleaned it thoroughly.

I glad I ask before I left it on all night, it had black mold on it. I'm just thankful that it was something I could fix and not electrical.
