Stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target, etc do not sell bulbs labeled for brooder/poultry use, but that doesn't mean you can't use them. Of course check the box for warnings, but also check the look of the glass. Teflon coated bulbs are opaque, so do not use anything opaque. Also do not use anything that says "shatter proof".

All clear non-coated bulbs should okay to use.

Or red ones. Many livestock compa ies use red heat bulbs.

And let’s be honest, how many of us have posted tips and tricks/read about DIY projects where we repurpose things...... Anyone could have made that mistake. Poor babies.

That’s interesting to know. I got my bulbs right next to the day old hatchinglings based on an employees suggestion. They were clearly marketed in that Farm store for all of the poultry. But they are red. I think I still have the box so I will have to go pull it out and read!

Yep, always check those labels.

It's not the red that is dangerous but the teflon coating.

Thank you for sharing! Smh as well....I would have never thought any different for using a temporary light for a temporary situation. Desperate times sometimes put our forethought in the back of our minds. I am so sorry for your loss @AaronandAlice
