At what age can you remove the heat lamp? I have three 4-5 week old chicks and wondering if they still need a heat source. They are kept indoors.

I have 4 - 5 week olds now too. I started them out at 95 for the first week and decreased the temp by 5 degrees each week. Depending on where you live they may be okay without the lamp now if they are pretty much feathered out like mine. I have my lamp on a timer so that it will cut off during the warmer part of the day but it comes back on in the early evening because it is still pretty cool here in Va at night. Mine are on my screened poarch in a large dog crate till our coop is finished. Well , hope this helps. Enjoy your chickies!

Turn it off - see how they react is the best way to do it.

I started turning my lamp off during the day when the chicks were around 3 weeks or so..... it was COLD then and we were heating the house up to around 75 and they did ok, no bunching up or loud peeping.......

Just watch them and you'll be able to tell if they're cold.
