Instead of moving the heat lamp up and down to get the temp right, my husband bought a dimmer to adjust the light. It's working well, so I thought I would share.

this is a pretty common practice and yeah it works well! isn't it so much easier than trying to figure out what you're going to attach the light to next week to raise it?

How bout their growing height? And their flying around? Doesn't that affect height of heat lamps? Just wondering?

They are still little and our brooder is high and has a lid covered with chicken wire. I thought you moved the light up and down to get the heat right. But if we need to we can raise it and then turn the dimmer up I guess. We are new to this, so feel free to give input.

How many chicks do you have in the brooder?

We have out heat lamp on the dimmer switch and our heat lamp is positioned over the wire mesh so the chicks can not come in contact with the lamp.

I must be frank and admit that I've always hated the idea of heat lamps. Raising chicks now without them. But I am so in love with that clever feeder in your brooder!! What an ingenious idea! Details, please, and maybe a closeup picture?

We raised the feeder to chest height and put the 45 degree sloped cover over witch only allows the chicks to the front of the feeder only. This keeps all the poop out.

Oh I thought you had to have s heater. We have only 2.
