I was wondering if I could use a purple uv heat lamp(one used for reptiles) on my chicks.. I currently use a 250w red bulb and was looking to go down to a 150w and I have the UV bulb on hand

Can I use a reptile lamp for chicks?
Reptile lamp should be fine. Doesn't matter what the heat source is, gas heating, wood heating, human heating, mom hen heating, as long as they can be at about 95 to start. That said, I use a 100W regular ol light bulb for my chicks on a dimer switch.Nov 28, 2009

Depending how many chicks you have a much smaller wattage can be used. I usually have a dozen or so bantam chicks at a time and use a 20 watt bulb in the heat lamp.
