Heat Pad Incubation Experiment

Ok, I have set up my stuff. If anyone wants to join us remember this, do not fold or crumple the heat pad, avoid it getting wet, do not overheat the heat pad, and do not apply a lot of pressure to the heat pad. If you are a kid, ask an adult. Avoid fire hazards, keep a fire extinguisher nearby just in case! Be careful with the temperature. Use a thermometer!

Here is my setup, I used a cardboard shoebox.

This helps with keeping the heat to the eggs, not the floor. I recommend using something like a lid because it has a pocket of air to insulate the heat.

Use something to prop the egg carton, this is really important! Also, use something that doesn't hold heat well.

Put the eggs on their "backs" and turn them over at the minimum three times a day, every 8 hours. I plan to dry incubate for the first week then use a few of the eggshells, and on lockdown, use all of the eggshells but with only a little bit of water in each.

I also wrapped it in a towel.

I plan to candle in 7 days because, in the first week, the chicks are really frail and shouldn't be moved. Have fun everyone!
Also, the eggs that I am using are australorp eggs.

Watching you both the best I can. Right now my internet is fuzzy at best. Too much rain and way too much wind. Add in an extra million people trying to be online at the same time makes it UGHHHHH!

My new thermometers/hygrometers did not show up on time - came late yesterday, so I am behind on setting eggs. At least I have one Narragansett hen on approx 11 eggs. lol I think she's about in the same time frame your eggs are in.
:caf:hugs:pop

Ok, you guys are being wayyyy too quiet here. What's happening? Where's our updates? lol

Slow here but 8 midget white eggs in little incubator. Another 27 turkey eggs of both going in the big one tomorrow. Decided to not put in chicken eggs since the midget whites have a habit of coming a few days earlier than the bigger heritage varieties.

So I gave my Columbian Wyandotte 7 Black Jersey Giant eggs today. Will be a blended family.
:hugs :fl:D

I am going to candle the eggs tomorrow. I don't want to bond with them to much. The dad had to go, so it would only hurt worse if they didn't hatch. I only have a bantam rooster now, so it is best not to think that I'm going to be doing experiments anymore.

Day 8- Sorry I couldn't go online yesterday. One might be a dud and one might be a quitter. So... ya. The embryo looks really alive in one of them and putting them in a shoebox seemed to control the heat. I basically never need to change the heat. One problem is that it is a little low, so that means that the eggs are going to develop slower.

Ok! Finally updating! Both of mine are developing, one moves around a lot. The other one doesn’t move at all, which kind of worries me. The temperature is definitely higher than normal, which seems to have made them grow faster. They both fill almost two thirds of the egg in the second week.
