Heat Pad Incubation Experiment

I’ve got news, and it isn’t good. I candled the egg and there was a blood ring, so I cracked it open. There was a fully developed chick inside, it just hadn’t pipped. I don’t know what happened. The guinea eggs were all yolkers. Anyways, it was a fun experience, just a failed one.

I'm so sorry, Kiwi - was definitely hoping for the best outcome. Still, you got very close.
:hugs

Unfortunately, having an actual incubator often isn't any better. I just threw out approximately 33 turkey eggs - 15 were not fertile at all and the rest all showed blood rings. Not sure it it is because of all this rainy weather, the incubator itself, or if my turkey tom just wasn't getting the job done - maybe not mature enough yet.

Even so, I have 4 midget white turkey eggs in a Janoel 12 that seem to be doing fine. I can see the heart beating on two of them after a quick candling. Fingers are crossed.

Oh, and I forgot to post the picture.
