Heat plate or lamp?

Glad I found this thread. Was looking for the answer to this question. Newbies here. We will be doing Cornish X for meat birds and Dominique hens for egg layers to start off with.

As others have said, a plate is the way to go. We used a Brinsea EcoGlow for our ducklings, and it was adjustable, so you could raise it up as they grew.

This past winter, we invested in a Sweeter Heater, and it's amazing! We have it hung from a pulley in the duckhouse so we can raise and lower it to adjust the heat. Compared to the Brinsea (which we loved!), the Sweeter Heater is bombproof!
