Heat source other than light

I was wondering if there was anything out there that would keep the chickens warm other than insulating the coop and using a light. It has to be pretty cheap and the coop is pretty far away from a power source.

In olden days they used to heat up rocks and wrap them in material and stick them at the bottom of the bed. Maybe try that? That would heat a coop for a few hours.

Why do your chickens need heat? Mine live in an uninsulated coop with no power whatsoever, and are just fine. Feed them a little extra scratch in the evenings if you're worried they're cold. Chickens tolerate the cold much better than heat.....

Considering thickness of the down comforter that they wear, I doubt that they would get cold. If they have shelter from drafts, they should be fine.
