I'm very concerned about my chickens health here in Phoenix AZ. The summers keep getting hotter and hotter (last summer wasn't as dreadful for them) and I don't want to have all of my chickens die of heat stroke. So, I have a few questions:
1) What are the symptoms of heat stroke in chickens?
2) How can I help a chicken who is suffering from heat stroke?
3) What precautions can I take to prevent heat stroke?
My coop has already been equipped with a mister and an automatic waterer. I also had a chicken die recently for mysterious reasons. It was though to be an issue with her crop, but I'm thinking that maybe it was the heat, or possibly that the heat affected her in some way that causes her crop to become damaged.
Any thoughts? Help with any of these questions would be very much appreciated.

I'm sorry about your hen.

Symptoms include gasping, struggling to stand and unable to stand (not just panting or holding the wings out)
A chicken suffering from heat stroke can get brain damage, so quickly dip them in a bucket or sink of cool (not cold) water to lower their body temperature.

Make sure there is always water, try adding ice to the water, plug in a fan to blow on them, provide plenty of shade, a mister (its good that you have one set-up

), feeding cold fruits like watermelon, and not chasing or stressing them. Make sure the coop has good air flow.

I hope they all stay healthy!
