It's going to just as hot today here if not hotter. After reading post from members that have these temp on a regular basis and their chickens do fine I feel much better about my hens being able to handle the heat too. Mine don't have a choice about being in the shade. Their run is under a willow tree. I think I will dump a few gallons of water out there again before I leave for work, add ice to the water so it stays cool till I get home (mabey not as much ice)and lay out ice packs again. I hope this breaks soon. I'm not good in this heat either, I always feel like I can't breath, get dizzy, headaches, and get tired so quickly.

And I'm drinking so much water I'm not hungry when it comes time to eat. It's an awful feeling and can't take much more of this.

It's just as hot here. We have been in a heat warning since last Friday, and it's suppose to continue through 7pm Thursday night. Yesterday is was 107 I believe with the heat index. We have fresh water for them, but the girls broke their 2 liter bottles that I had for them. We've got the A/C thank goodness but it's still in the low 90's with the thing cleaned out and running on high. Also have a fan in there but neither seem to be doing much although I know it's taking the edge off. Been opening the windows to allow for ventilation, but systematically opening and closing them as the sun moves to prevent to much direct light or heat. Besides constant checking to make sure are ok, that's about all I can do. May go put some electrolytes in their water to help them out a bit. Looks like an all around prayer for those in the middle of this heat wave...feathered and two legged alike. Thank goodness my dogs can hold their bladders for a long time. Newfies would die of a heat stroke with all that fur.....and each of mine have their own little swimming pool.

You must be int the Mat-Su valley...take a trip to Fairbanks about now and that ought to warm you up a bit.

What our dear chicken friends here in the lower 48 don't realize is that you don't likely have AC. We didn't when we lived in Anchorage...we didn't need it...except for about 1 week in July.

It is a roasty 94 in and still heading higher where I am--wishing for a trip back to "heaven" in AK.

Yonaton, where do you get the electrolytes? Is this something I can get at the grocery?

It's 97 here with the heat index at 102. And our charming CivilWar-era house has no A/C. I'm panting along with my babies!

Lastest temp reading 103 in downtown Charlotte. The girls are out in the woods and refuse to come back to the run even though I hosed it down. I found one of them standing in the dogs cheap plastic wally world wading pool.

I think I'll go join her

Hubby said our digital thermometer was reading 107 in the shade at 3:00. It's back down to 101.8 right now, hahaha --- much cooler.

These are the Vitamins and Electrolytes I use:

You can usually find it at the feed store (or something similar).

Stay cool

We have an old home too. 1790 log and mortor and the other building is brick. No central air here. We do however have the window unit in the living room and in the bedroom. I have it turned on, but I'm outside with the hens. I feel so bad for them I feel like I need to suffer with them I guess.

I did manage to catch and dunk 4 out of 7 in my daughters wading pool. The water was perfect to help cool them down. And me too.

A light wind is coming through which helps even more.
