We have a radiant heated garage floor which keeps the building a nice 60 degrees. If the ducklings brooder is set up on the floor would this affect the the set up?

What are you using heat lamp? And what's your brooder look like? I still would use a thermometer at floor level to set your initial temperature than adjust based on behaviors if necessary.
I don't have one yet. I need to get it around.

I can set them up off of the floor if needed, but thought I could use the floor to my advantage, but still do what is best for the ducklings of course.

What type of thermometer do I need?
I use any kind to get a base reading right under the lamp, I lay it flat. After I have something to brood I watch their behaviors to see if they are cold, crowded under the light, too hot, spread to the outside of the brooder walls, or just right, everyone spread out evenly doing their own thing.
