my dad got the wrong kind of bulb for our heat lamp. he got a red LED bulb, which clearly does not give off any useful amount of heat whatsoever.

let me make it clear that i do not agree with using a heater at all. i would much rather have a heat lamp for them, the idea of a heater- a regular old house heater- doesnt make me feel confident at all. what if they got too hot? what if they somehow suffocated?

however, my dad is dead set on not going anywhere else today. not even for day old chicks. i want to move them to the brooder so they can at the very least get something to drink- and i believe they can still go a day without food (again, they're a day old) so just water.

again, to make it clear.. i am also very scared of my dad. that might seem odd to some, but i am. he has terrible anger issues and even the littlest things can set him off. he's threatened to kill my goats one time, even threw something at them, in one of his fits. this isnt about me though, it's about my chicks. because of his anger, I'm scared to ask him to go today without proper reason.. even though I'm sure them overheating should've been a good enough reason..

is the heater safe for the chicks, just in the room? or should i keep them in the brooder temporarily for a drink, and then put them back in the incubator until tomorrow, when we get the correct bulb?

Do you have any regular old school light bulbs around the house?

Lol. Ohh you kids now days.
An incandescent light bulb. You know the ones that when theyve been on a while you can't unscrew one because theyre to hot to the touch.
Looks like these but unfortunately most are white so you can't see inside.

Not a LED or a florescent type like this.

oh! whoops, sorry. didnt know those were considered old school! those are the ones im pretty used to here. we should have some laying around, unless we've magically run out. do those give off enough heat for a brooder?

Ya. For small hatches ive used 60 or 70 watt ones.
You got a thermometer you can check temp in brooder with?
