I'm getting ready to buy feeders and waterers for the coop I'm building soon. I need to get a heated waterer for the winter. what is the best kind. where is the best place to find them?

IF I get water nipples is there a way to heat those and keep them running in the winter?

I checked mcmurry and they don't have any right now.

does anyone know how far off the ground water nipples should be so that both full size hens and bantams can drink from them?

I like to use a large heated dog bowl. Its a lot easier to fill and clean. I have used chicken waters in the past, a real pain to fill in cold weather without spilling water all over. When I say cold weater I mean down to 20 below.

This coming winter I'm going to try a engine block heater to the bottom of the waterer. Hopefully it works .

They get WAY too hot
A 40=60 watt light bulb will normally put out all the heat you need
Block heaters can go as high as 450 degrees

I just use heated 2-4gallon buckets and throw a brick in the bottom to avoid drowning or tipping over. Much cheaper than heated poultry waterers.
