I started keeping laying breeds in the beginning but was over run with eggs! So now I keep them as pets. Of course i keep one or two lg birds for eggs. But its no longer how I look at chickens.
I dont have a garden at home but I run the one at school. I have ten tomato plants. TONS of tomatos growing. My squash has gone Wild. Peppers, cucumbers and eggplant.
Being that far outside of the city predators will be much more likely to attack your coop. A raccoon can wipe out the whole flock as they only want the gullets. So be careful! I'm lookin for an EE hen to add to my flock if you ladies know anyone Send them my way! I will also be soon looking for hatching eggs of laying breeds. Especially EE. Ive been learning how to sex these chicks and would love to hatch a few batches n sell locally as a summer project for me and the three daughters.
THANKS!
