Hello all,
I have been a lurker on BYC for the last 5 years and have enjoyed pet chickens for the last 5 years... But now I am taking on a couple ducklings! I am going to use a brooder heat plate for the first time and I'm considering the premier1. Can any of you tell me if I need to also purchase their thermostat for this heat plate since it has been noted that it runs hotter than the Brinsea or am I good to go with just the plate and cover itself? Thanks so much!

Premier says on their site to use one. Here is a quick copy n past...

Use a Dial-A-Temp to allow control of Premier's Heating Plates output between 105°F to 125°F or a Heating Plate Temperature Controllerwhich allows control of Premier's Heating Plates output between 20% - 100% of full output.

Without the controller, the plate would be heating full force. Like you mentioned, they can be a lil hot. You want to keep reducing amount of heat weekly, until they no longer need any.

WISHING YOU BEST....... :highfive:

Over on the Mama Heating Pad thread, there are photos of chicks who were burned using the Premier because it got too hot. When the owner contacted the company, she was told that it DOES need to have a regulator on it because the Premier is manufactured for the European market. I'll see if I can find a link to that page....
