New to raising chickens, and have 1 in the brooding box so far ( 2 in incubator) . How do I know if my chick is happy and at right temperature ?

If it is contentedly peeping, scratching around in the bedding, eat and drinking.
When they are too hot, they try to get as far away from the heart source as possible and lay with their wings out and pant.
When they are too cold they distress peep and huddle.
One end of the brooder should be cool and the other warm.
Have you shown the hatchling the water source? Food? is the water source drown proof? Can you post pictures of your brooder?
 
Thank you I have adjusted the lamp so the chick is now very content and will sleep underneath as well as feed and drink regularly, we have another two more to bring in from the incubator over the next two days and another that should be hatched by morning. We are on day 25 so these may be the last unless we detect any when we do the tap and listen method and float test.
