Heating with a Wood Stove or pellet????????????????

We are 3 years with a pellet and will never go back to wood, sooo much easier. We have even added another at the other end of our large home. If we could have an outdoor burner we would but it is not allowed in our area. We have it cold here in Maine and we have only used 236$ worth of oil in 3 years. We have burned 880$ worth of pellets in 3 years. We barely notice an electric change. Our battery backup will go for 10 hours.

We have had a wood stove in our 1st house for 15 years. I think it was a Dutchwest model from Vermont Castings. No complaints with the stove - except that small house becomes quite tropical when we fire the stove. We live on 108 acres of woods, and burn whatever falls across our road or the county road. Usually oak, hickory, maple - all good hardwood.

If wood weren't so accessible here I would get the pellet stove. Or perhaps something that burns corn? Where you are that might be a good bet. If you can stomach the idea of burning food!

We've had a pellet stove for 5 years now and love it. It also doesn't hurt that the price of pellets went down dramatically this year.
