First of all I don't know if this is the right place for this question but if it's not, I ask moderators to move the thread to the right section :) So, I have a 3-years-old Australorp rooster, Isa browns and other Australorp hens. Now, my Isas have a lack of feathers on the back. I'm pretty sure that it's not a problem of lice but it's the rooster. He's not aggressive but maybe he's too big for Isas, I think he's 4/4 kilos and a half. I should trim his nails and spurs or it's just a problem of difference of size? I thought a dual purpose roo was not so heavy for a normal size breed, thanks.

That's normal Rooster damage to feathers. He always has his favourite Hens that submits to his breeding more.
Trimming his spurs helps. My Husband and his friend are doing my Roosters this weekend with a small grinder and not too short.

Yes but my Australorps do not have this kind of problem. Instead the lack of feathers on the back of Isas is quite marked and it's not a pretty sight. That's why I thought it was a problem of difference of size. However I'll trim his spurs ;)

Certain breeds show the damage more too because they are not as thickly feathered over the back..

I have a Huge Rooster. Breeds my little Silkie cross with no problems until recently. His spurs need a trim...:frow
