They're looking really good!

It always amazes me how big the 'real' barred rocks and brahmas are and how fast they grow. Hatchery stock are so puny compared to them. I took a picture of one of my eight week old light brahma cockerels next to a 13 week old ko shamo cockerel to amuse myself the other night.

I also bought an eight week old LB chick at the show I went to earlier this month. Its father got Reserve Asiatic. Boy was he stunning (and huge).

I know you told us, but I can't remember what you got.
It's a mish mash of breeds. A buff Orpington, a blue copper marans, 2 salmon faverolle, 2 EE, 2 barnevelder, an olive egger, 5 mottled bantam cochins, one's a rooster, 4 bantam EE, one's a rooster. I also hatched 4 Millie fleur d'uccle, 2 bantam calico cochins, and 2 bantam olive eggers. I also have a mom Wyandotte who hatched out 2 EE.

We also picked up some pheasants recently with the plans to release them eventually. They are crazy little birds.

Also I still have my 9 little bunnies.

Also been planting my gardens and getting them straighten around before it gets too hot.

The heat and I have a love-hate thing going on. Sometimes I simply can't take the heat, so I go indoors. Other times, I do pretty well with it, and can do a lot outside. One of the advantages here with summer is the pool. I can go do things, get hot, jump in to cool off, then head back out to do more stuff.

I have good fans in all my coops, so my chickens don't overheat.

Me, too. Each pen has its own fan, plus the overhead fan.

Lisa, that's quite a mixed bunch! Sounds like a fun bunch, too.

The Brahmas are so tall. At a certain point, they bypass the Rocks. It's about that time for the battles to begin, too. I may have to get some more video of those Brahma brothers battling it out. The BRs never go at it like that, ever.

Remember this one? I had to put it to dramatic music. At one point, you think they're done and there's even a lull in the music, like it was planned that way, LOL. Then, they're back at it again. Oh, the fun and the screams I'll be hearing!

Oh, Bonnie, my blue partridge broody hen, got out with her babies two days ago. And one found a lizard that Finn had killed that day. She was screaming at it and beating it up and the chicks kept taking it and running off with it and playing tug of war with the body. One was playing keep-away from Mama Bonnie and she was fast losing her patience with it. I saw her run up behind it and literally yank that chick back by the scruff of the neck to make it drop that dead lizard so she could beat it up some more, LOL. Eventually, I was able to wrangle what was left of the poor dead reptile away from the chicks and take it out of sight.

At least Bonnie made sure it was no danger to the chicks. Yeah, it gets wild here at times when one finds a big bug or something, then the rest begin chasing it to steal it. It's a hoot.

She's a great mama, that Bonnie. She and Brandy were born to be broodies, that's for sure. I just hope this is their only time this year, but probably no such luck since they each went broody four times last year.
