Hector's World: Adventures and Mayhem at Mountain View Poultry (or Sequel to The Evolution of Atlas

Pics
I have a hen that bites at my shoes when they have shoe laces. I can wear any other shoe, or sandals without her doing that. Maybe the laces remind her of worms?

Jill unties my shoes all the time, but I wear the same shoes to the barn every day. Hector hasn't done anything like that since he was in his "learning" stage. He ran at my shoes as if to peck at them. Usually, he just charges up and looks up at me, I say, "Go on, you goober" and he runs off to do whatever is in his mind to do out there.

My dysfunctional goober and two of his sons.

What would cause a 2-3 month old beak to go crosswise. I know they can be born like that this just happened. I guess and injury. I can make go back together but it doesn’t stay..we need to cull her. She can drink but I don’t think she can eat.

Actually, it was already probably started, just imperceptible and progressed. I had a black Ameraucana cockerel like that years ago. He was fine at hatch, but at about that same age, I noticed the offset beak beginning.

I just saw something I'd never seen before, a rooster sliding on his belly like he was sliding into home plate! Hector made a run for Athena as she came out to the group on range. Next thing I see is that big rooster literally on his belly skidding through the grass. Then, he gets up and they start picking at the seed heads on the grasses. Sure took the wind out of his sails! :gig

:lau I love it when they try to act like nothing happened. I've seen a few trip over the years chasing a hen, it's hilarious.
