Heifers for the boys!

Have fun with them. I used to show Limousin cattle in 4-H. It was tons of fun. Then we were in a car wreck that ruined my shoulder and I could no longer lead the cattle around

I miss it.

I agree with you both, 4-H memories are some of my best.

And Marlinchaser I want a 1/2 in my freezer too, but my cattle keep popping out heifer calves which is good for increasing the herd but not what I am looking for. lol

I agree, I show our cattle (murray greys) over here in Australia and although our system is a little different to your 4-H, I started when I was a kid and I still havent stoppped! I show our cattle, my goats, this year I will show my sheep for the first time, and next year I intend to show my RIRs and Australorps! Can you tell I love showing?

Its something that gets in your blood.

From what I can tell from the far off pics, the springing heifer looks VERY nice. Good brood cow

Are they halter broke? Just wondering cos a 2 yr old is gonna be a challenge for an 8 yr old to break in ... I've done 6 yr olds yes, but not when I was 8 lol or are you just planning to break and show the calves from these females?

And Sara ... eat one of your heifers. Pick the lowest quality one, put her on grain for a little while and then put her in the freezer. Tastes just as good!

Great pics!

They are nery beautiful animals.

BTW,

What is a Heifer? It sounds familiar but I'm not sure what it means....?

Quote:
Heifer is a young female bovine, before she has a calf. Once she has her calf, she is technically a cow, although some people will use the term 'first calf heifer, second calf heifer' to speak about young cows.

Nice looking heifers.

I hope they are either already halter broke or you are planning to majorly help the boys. Those are some big animals for young childern to learn to break in.

We'd love for you to visit us at we haven't seen you around for quite some time.

Yes, the older one is halter broke and was shown, but I am not planning for him to show her, her calf will be his project. My other son is only 3 so he wont be showing his either although she has had a halter on.
