height question for coop

I am planning on converting the back 1/3 of a shed which is pretty much the size of a one car garage. I am 5'8" tall and was planning on making the coop as tall as the roof to be easily accessable for cleaning and collecting. (maybe 6 1/2'?) But as I live in PA and more space is harder to keep warm I am wondering if I should cut it down to maybe 4'. Its close enough to the house to run a heavy duty extension cord if I have to but nothing to fancy. And what kind of insulation is best, I was wondering about the styrofoam type stuff as there will be plywood covering it. Im trying to do this on a minimum of $ which is why I choose the shed wich already has vinyl siding and a garage door on the front to open for air in the summer. Any opinions are appreciated, thanks.

If it were me, I think I would put the styrofoam insulation up, and just seal the cracks with tape. Then of course plywood over it, but a heavy duty plywood. I need to insulate the top of my coop too, just to keep the warmth in. I started last fall but haven't gotten back out there. So much to do with the job and all. Good luck with the coop!

Trust me if you're going to be going inside to clean etc... it's much easier if you can stand upright. Stooping gets old very quickly!!

I live in Northern Michigan and my coop isn't heated. Dry and draft free are important. I also try to stay mostly with winter hardy breeds.

Whatever insulation is cheapest will work fine as long as it's covered and they can't peck at it. Mine have gone nuts over a pc of foam... it's insane.

I was planning on getting RIR, my grandfather had them when I was young and I know they are hardy and good all around birds.....and pretty.
