Do you have a vet you can ask? We had a chick hatch (on Saturday after hours, nobody on call) with some innards stuck outside the naval (yes, chickens have a naval) and we learned to hospice our little chick very well, then buried him the next afternoon. That time spent with my sons figuring out the cosmos and God's purpose for this poor dying chick ("Why US?! Why Now?!") was time VERY WELL SPENT as a family. Truth be told, death is inevitable, it is a requirement of life, we all do it eventually, but we figured out some comfort measures and I can see now that our hard work for this tiny little being was well spent, and that chick was very much loved and comforted. Comfortable, too, I might add.

Using many search engines, we found university extension sites with agricultural studies which EXACTLY described the situation, how common it is, what the expected outcomes are, how many hours til the chick passes on, etc. Thank goodness for the internet.

I am sorry for your losses but I am sure the golden plan for you is something wonderful to learn. What you are doing is with love and with sincerity, and hopeful. Its all good. You just keep trying, OK? Keep doing everything necessary. I have faith in you. I was new at chickens once, too, and today my chickens are happy, healthy birds. I think you have a bright future too
