Hello everyone! I am new to raising my own flock of birds. I got my very first batch of chicks mid March 2020. I have since raised up multiple batches of four or more chicks at a time. I have raised and hatched for other family members, and they have hatched for me.
As of right now I have 3 Roos ( Welsummer, Black F1 Olive Egger, and a Batam Barred Rock), 12 hens only 7-8 laying. The hens vary in breeds, 2 Bantam Buff Brahma, 3 New Hampshire Reds, 2 Golden Comets, 1 snowy Easter Egger, 1 F1 Olive Egger, 1 Prairie Bluebell Egger (unsure), 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte (pullet), 1 Midnight Majestic Maran (pullet).
I also have two mallard drakes, and two guineas.
The guineas are being trained to the coop with two pullets. Seems to be going over well.
We also have three children( 12yr, 8yr, and 13 month), two dogs and two cats.
I found BYC from trying to figure out the breads of chickens we have, and decided to join finally. I am having an issue right now. I’m almost certain my Roos are just being boys and fighting. Their combs seem to have been pecked and bleeding. A couple of the hens almost seem frostbite. Hopefully no disease!
I also included a funny picture. Our oldest hens are almost like a little lap puppies, flying onto our laps n shoulders ❤️
