Hello,
Just a quick introduction.
My name is Agnes, I live with my family in the Alpine region of Slovenia.
This is the 2nd time I am rasing chickens, the first time around I had to rehome them, since I had to move temporarily to where chicken keeping was impossible.
This year we have a much bigger flock of 25 chickens and one rooster. Most are layer hybrids - brown, black and barred, 8 white leghorns (5 'rescued') and 4 light sussexes, of which one has 6 newly hatched chicks, our first brood ever 🙂 1 chick is still recuperating from late complicated hatch, not sure how to integrate it with the rest.
They have a coop with roosts and nests, but otherwise free range full time, so we have no designated run (admittedly, the area under the raised coop where food and water are is a wasteland, made by our feathery friends).
We have a big garden and grow as much food ourselves as we can. Hope to grow more in the future, time permitting 🙂
Looking forward to being an active member of the BYC community and learning along the way.

Congratulations on getting your second flock and growing as much of your own food as possible! I always enjoy meeting new members from around the world.

My chickens only "free range" when I am home because there are so many predator species here (including minks, coyotes, owls, eagles, stray dogs and feral cats). I hope yours are safer in Slovenia!

This is a great community of folks who enjoy sharing their knowledge and learning from others.

Welcome to BYC; we'll do our best to make you feel at home!
